Traveling to Canada
Below is general information regarding travel to Detroit, MI, USA to Windsor, ONT, Canada. ITE strongly recommends attendees visit the U.S. Customs and Border Protection site or the Canada Border Services Agency for official guidance.
It is also encouraged to do research regarding additional requirements that may impact your trip.

From Detroit to Windsor

To cross the border from Detroit into Canada (Windsor, Ontario), drive across the Ambassador Bridge or take the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Both routes operate 24/7 and require proper identification, a brief vehicle inspection, and toll payments.

All travelers (including U.S. and Canadian citizens) must present one of the following Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant documents:

Valid U.S. or Canadian Passport

Enhanced Driver's License (EDL)

NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST Trusted Traveler cards
Note: A standard birth certificate and regular driver's license are no longer accepted.

From Windsor to Detroit

To enter Detroit from Windsor, Canada, you must pass through U.S. Customs and Border Protection. You need a valid passport (or an approved WHTI-compliant document like an Enhanced Driver's License or NEXUS card) and must be legally admissible to the United States.

Every traveler must carry an accepted travel document. U.S. and Canadian citizens must present one of the following:
